Coventry City are based in Coventry, with their foundation dated to 1883. An FA Cup win came in 1986/87 and a Second Division championship. The archive's detailed league record starts in 1992/93, when the club were already in the top flight.
Highfield Road was home throughout Coventry's first Premier League spell. The opening season ended in 15th place, before an improvement the following campaign. That later points return of 56 remains their highest in the archive.
Lower-half finishes followed. During that period, Coventry recorded a 5–0 home victory against Blackburn Rovers, their widest league win in the covered results. An earlier winless run had stretched from August into December, covering 14 league matches before the later recovery in final positions. An improvement to 11th came later, with a positive goal difference rather than the negative balances of the preceding campaigns.
The points return in that improved campaign matched the opening Premier League season, though the placing was higher and the goal difference had moved above an even balance.
