Norwich City date their foundation to 1902; Norwich is their home city. Their pre-Premier League honours include League Cup wins and Second Division championships. The later League Cup victory in that earlier record came in 1984/85. The archive's detailed Premier League results begin at 1992/93.

Carrow Road's third-place season

Carrow Road was Norwich's home throughout the seasons held here. Their first Premier League campaign brought their highest placing in the archive, with a finish of 3rd. The points total of 72 remains their best here, despite the campaign ending with a negative goal difference.

The following season returned fewer points and a lower placing, although the goal difference became positive. It included a 4–0 away victory at Leeds United, Norwich's widest league win in these results. Another fall in position then ended with relegation.

A short return, then a longer stay

The first relegation campaign returned 43 points, below either of the preceding seasons, while the goal difference moved back into negative territory. The next Premier League appearance began with a winless sequence lasting 13 matches, from August into November. That return campaign ended in relegation, with Norwich placed 19th.

A later spell lasted longer. The opening campaign ended in 12th, followed by a slightly higher placing with fewer points. During the latter season, Norwich remained unbeaten across 10 league matches from October into December.

That run was followed by another relegation season, whose points total fell below either of the preceding campaigns. The goal difference was more negative as well.

Later returns end in the bottom three

The subsequent Premier League spells each lasted a single season before relegation. The first ended in 19th place, while the next finished at the bottom of the table.

Dean Smith's recorded appointment came during the latest of those return campaigns. It ended with Norwich's most negative goal difference in the archive. The latest completed season here was 2021/22, when they again finished bottom.
