Stoke City are based in Stoke-on-Trent, with their foundation recorded in 1863. A League Cup victory in 1971/72 sits alongside earlier Second Division championships in the honours record. A Football Alliance title also appears in the pre-Premier League record. Detailed league coverage here begins with 1992/93, before Stoke's Premier League entry.
Stoke won a further Second Division championship in 1992/93. The Victoria Ground remained home through the subsequent years, before the club moved to the stadium now recorded as bet365 Stadium. That ground history places the change at the start of 1997/98.
The later Premier League return opened with Stoke in 12th place. An improvement in the following campaign came with a higher points total and a less negative goal difference. The next seasons finished lower, though without a relegation.
A winning stretch from November into December covered 4 league matches during that period. The following season included a longer unbeaten sequence, running from November to late December. It reached 10 matches, though the final league placing remained outside the top half.
Stoke then reached 9th place and repeated that finish in the following campaigns. The middle season brought their highest points return and best goal difference in the archive. A 6–1 home victory against Liverpool belongs to that campaign, the club's widest league win here.
Their final top-half season matched the earlier position without repeating the best points total, and its goal difference was negative rather than positive. The next campaign ended lower, with fewer points and a more negative goal difference than the preceding season. During the later campaign, Stoke went without a win for 13 league matches between January and May.
Stoke's final season returned 33 points, below every earlier campaign of this Premier League spell. Relegation followed in 2017/18, their latest covered season, with a finish of 19th.
Coverage Premier League matches only, in the seasons the archive publishes; cups and European matches are not included. Team sheets (line-ups, minutes, cards) are held for 2025/26 only. History and all-time records refer to this archive's coverage, not the club's entire existence. Manager and ground histories may have gaps; no missing spells are inferred.
