Watford were founded in 1881 and are based in Watford. Their earlier honours include the Third Division championship of 1968/69 and a later Fourth Division title. A Southern League championship also appears in the stored pre-Premier League record. Detailed league coverage here begins at 1992/93, before Watford's Premier League seasons.
A Second Division title preceded the later play-off victory that brought Watford into its first Premier League campaign. Vicarage Road remained home throughout the seasons held here. The opening campaign ended with Watford bottom of the table.
Another play-off win preceded the next return, which also lasted only a season before relegation. The points total improved on the earlier Premier League campaign and the goal difference was less negative, but the final position was unchanged.
Quique Sánchez Flores' first stored tenure covered the opening campaign of the next Premier League spell. Watford finished 13th, before a lower placing under Walter Mazzarri the following season. The return campaign had also produced more points than either of the earlier single-season Premier League spells. The points total fell as the goal difference became more negative.
A later improvement preceded the campaign that returned Watford's highest points total here. Javi Gracia's stored tenure included that 11th-place season. It contained a 5–1 win away to Cardiff City, the club's widest league victory in the archive.
The next season included another spell under Sánchez Flores before Nigel Pearson's appointment. A winless run that began in the previous spring extended into November, while a later unbeaten sequence covered the winter period. Relegation followed at the end of the campaign.
The subsequent return included managerial spells under Xisco, Claudio Ranieri and Roy Hodgson. Its points total fell below the preceding relegation campaign's return, with a more negative goal difference as well. Watford finished 19th in 2021/22, their latest covered season.
Coverage Premier League matches only, in the seasons the archive publishes; cups and European matches are not included. Team sheets (line-ups, minutes, cards) are held for 2025/26 only. History and all-time records refer to this archive's coverage, not the club's entire existence. Manager and ground histories may have gaps; no missing spells are inferred.
